Taiwan Quest is a blog about my experience moving from New Zealand to Taiwan.

My first post outlines why I made the move.

I’m based in Kaohsiung, a city of 2.7 million in southern Taiwan. Since arriving in January 2023, my day-to-day experiences have met and exceeded my expectations. Kaohsiung’s sunny, creative, relaxed vibe feels like a good fit.

I obtained permanent residency status (APRC) in November 2025, and am continuing to work remotely and study Chinese part-time.

I definitely want to stay.

I write under my Chinese name, Zhen‑Kang, which I adopted for use in Taiwan.
